Glass or plastic
There are at least five ways to use glass
? Leave right out of the picture all together (mainly in oil paintings).
? Clear glass, 2mm only on the front
? Diffused glass, 2mm used to stop glare from house or sun light.
? Glass both sides, so when you see the back there is glass there as well, good for cigarette cards so you read about them.
? Plastic, lighter and believe it, clearer than most quality glass. Plus its cheaper.
Mounts or border
Mounts and border means the coloured card you see close to the picture under the glass. It makes a big difference to what colour it is. A cream or white is a save bet (like you see in galleries) because these two colours go with most peoples taste. You now have a choice to have any one or double mount colour you want (well we only have 90 colours in stock). You can now match curtains, wallpaper or room décor. Don't just put up with cream or white (fine though they are) the picture will be hanging in your house for years and you want it to look right.
Oil and acrylics
? These don't usually have any glass or plastic on them (we can if you ask). Oils also seam to have a larger frame than say a water colour. This is because there is not usually a mount. To make up for this a larger frame looks a lot better, a small frame looks lost on any size oil. Plus most oils are best viewed at a distance, this would also make a small frame look lost.
